COURT OF APPEAL.
EAST COAST NATIVE CASE. The Court of Appeal to-day concluded its hearing in the casß between Wetini Rikirangi and other natives and the East Coast Commissioner. The action was for" discovery and accounts. Mr. G. Hutchison appeared for the plaintiffs, and Mr. H. D. Bell, K.C., with him Mr. Nolan, for the defendant. Tha president of the court,' Mr. Justice Williams, held that it would be impossible to give the relief claimed in this case without interfering with the duties which Parliament, had imposed •upon the* Valuation Court. If the proEor court in which the relief ought to s sought was the Validation Court, the application for discovery ought to have *baen made to that court. It would, his Honour said, be futile to give discovery in the Court of Appeal even if it was a proper court to gp to. Judgment must be for the defendant.' Mr. Justice Edwards, Mr. Justice Cooper, and Mr. Justice Chapman came to tho same decision. Costs were allowed in the Supremo Court as on £1000, and in the Appeal ' Court on the highest scale as from a distance.
