IN ARGENTINA.
» THE FARMING OUTLOOK. Mr. Kingsland, who was in New Zealand over thirty years ago ? .and who is now closely associated with the cold storage business in Buenos Aires, has some interesting remarks td mate concerning matters in Argentina. Mr. Kingsland was the founder of the La Plata Cold Storage Company of Buenos Aires, the capital for which was raised in South Africa. The undertaking,, he< informed a representative of The Post, w»s dealing with some 450 bullocks and 400 sheep daily, bnt it is now turning out 600 bullocks and 6000 sheep, all for the British markets. The dairying industry, Mr. Kingsland startes, was making great progress. It was largely in the- hands of Spanish Basques and Germans, who were indefatigable workers and conducted their businesses upon modern lines. There N was, he sam, much difficulty in procuring labour for milking. The labour for other purposes is Italian, and it is generally satisfac-tory,-the immigrants being hard-work- • ing, intelligent, and frugal people. Usually the system v/as to put a lot of im. migrants on to cropping the land, and after four or five years cropping, the land was put down in alfalfa or lv» cerne, for feeding stock. The prospects cf the country were ex. tremely bright, notwithstanding what superficial observers might say, and Mr. Kingsland did not think New Zealand could afford to hold her competitor in the frozen meat and dairying industries too cheaply. The country was peaceful, which fact , was no doubt attributable to the enor'mons amount of British and foreign capital invested in its enterprises and industries, England having £2,000,000 in the railways alone. Americans were making a big bid for the trade, and had recently bought the company with which Mr. Kingsland was identified, retaining him until a few months ago as advisory director. ,
