SERIOUS DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY. [Br T£LSOEArn. — Special to The Post.] MASTERTON, This Day. ' Roff and Thompson's flax mill, with five stacks oE hemp, was totally destroyed by fire yesterday. There was no insurance. A fire broke out on Donald M'Ken-' zie's station yesterday, and spread to M'llaeV property. Last night the ranges were ablaze and presented a brilliant spectacle. A dangerous fire occurred on C. Lang's property at Tanglewood. and is still burning. Lang's and Jonnston's home--itaads are in danger. A fire occurred on Rutherford's property at Wairere, and fires are burning behind Olive's 'and Harris's land at Tanglewood. - SIX THOUSAND ACRES SWEPT. [Ey TrufGßAr-H. — Special to The Post.] MASTERTON. This Day. The large <ire which started on DonI aid M'Kenzie's run originated accidentally tluough a spark from an engine at Smith's sawmill. By the timo the outbreak was notieeabJo the fire had got such a hold that the combined efforts of the mill employees were powerless to stay its progress. The piopei ties covered by fire are those of Mosis. Kebbell, Clapharn, Cross, Heckler, Hollo way, Rutherford, Harris, and Dagg. It is certain, that many sheep havo been destroyed. The area devastated is nearly GOOO acres. Settlers at Weraiti, Teparao, and Brancepoth wero out- all last night battling with the ilamcs. A farmer stated »to a representative of the press to-day that the fire would do an immense amount of good, though j an. amount of damage was inevitable.
