FRONTIER RAIDS.

SUCCESS OF BRITISH MISSION. ABMS SUEEENDERED. A FULL SUBMISSION PROMISED. By Teletrrtph.— Press Aeeooiition.— Copyright. CALCUTTA, 2nd March. 'Many headmen of the Tirah tribes have petitioned General Sir James Willcocks, commanding the British punitive expedition, to spare the ,Zakka Khels, promising to punish those concerned in the recent raids. The Tirahs deposited rlhes worth 20,000 rupees as security, and the 7akha Khels have promised to co-operate with them in punishing offenders, and to make full submission to the British. One thousand two hundred of thetribesmen then marched into the British camp, carrying modern rifles and bearing themselves proudly, though showing signs of physical exhaustion. Their leaders declared that but for the mountain guns they would have ventured into the open plain and fought the expedition mail for man. ■General Willcocks accepted their submission,, and gave supplies of food to the Zakha Khels. The expedition retired from Walai to Jamrud, gassing through narrow defiles, and not a. shot was fired by a Zakha tribesman at any point. The troops are in fine condition, and the rains are just commencing in the they are traversing. The Government is delighted at the easy success of the mission on which the expedition was sent out. The Tirah tribesmen occupy a valley in Afghanistan to the- north of the ■Safed Koh range, stretching cast and west.
