King Edward personally presented the Edward medal to Chandler and Everson, a Yorkshire and Welsh miner respectively, for conspicuous gallant -y in rescuing life. In October, 1907, King Edward instituted a, medal to be awarded to those who endanger their own lives in saving, or attempting to save, the lives of others from peril in mines or ouarries within the British Dominions. There are two classes, the first of silver and the second of bronze, and the awards are only mado on the recommendation of the Home Secretary.
