A CONCILIATION BOARD CASE.

A delegation from the Boaid of Conciliation sitting in Masterton in reference to the butter. creamery, and cheese factory workers demand, visited the factories here yesterday afternoon and ascertained that the men were quite satisfied. They worked an average of 9 hours per diem, and received a wage ranging from £2 to £2 10s according to time and season. None of the men attended flic meeting of the Conciliation Board.
A steamer with mails aboard left San Francisco for Auckland on the 14th insfc. The Benevolent Institution Trustees at their meeting this afternoon were informed'that the inmates in the Ohiro Home to date numbered 101, of whom 68 were males. Mr. F. G. Bolton, as a new trustee, stated that he paid a surprise visit to the Home this morning and was much impressed with tho satisfactory condition of the institution, the I arrangements made for the health and comfort of the inmates, and the highly satisfactory management of the Home by Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Truebridge, the master and matron respectively. An elocutionary and musical treat is promised those who attend the entertainment to be held at the Missions to Seamen on Friday next. Tho proceeds of the concert will augment the new organ fund. The Hon. Jas M'Gowan has consented lo open the fifth annual siunmeT show of the Hutt Valley Horticultural Society to-morrow, at the Drill Hall, at 3 p.m. Afternoon tea will be available, Jind the Hutt orchestra will be in attendance. Messrs.
