DEATH OF MR. FREDERICK COOPER.
«* Mr. Frederick Cooper, the well-known seedsman and nurseryman, of Wellington, died last night at his residence, Alicetown, Lower Hutt, aged 67 years'. Mr. Cooper was a native of Somerset, I England, and arrived in Wellington with his parents in 1842. When the gold rush broke out in Otago, he went toulh to tiy his fortune there, and he also spent some time on the Ballarat I g«(ldfields. On his return to New Zealand he settled down in Wellington, — marrying the only daughtor of .Robert Holt Carpenter, of this city. During his long residence here he has always taken great interest in local government matters ; also in horticulture. He established a business as a seedsman and nurseryman in this city about forty years ago, and tho firm has long been well known throughout the Wellington district. Mrs. Cooper died two yea,rs ago, and shortly after her death he had a paralytic stroke from which he never properly recovered. Yesterday morning ho had a second stroke and was unconscious till his death at eleven o'clock last night. »He has '.eft six daughters and two sons, — viz., Mrs. H. Eames, Mrs. V. Sanderson, Mrs.'S. Potter, Mrs. A. Hall, Mrs. G. Cook, Miss Cooper, and Messrs. Frederick and George Cooper.
