The Times states that it, is rumoured that, although asked at the last moment to materially reduce^ the Estimates, the Admiraly stood firm by what it.regards as the minimum compatible with national safety. Ifc was reported on Friday that the Chancellor of the* Exchequer objected to the Naval Estimates of Lord Tweedmouth (First Lord of tho .Admiralty) as too high, and that the estimates were returned to the Admiralty for revision. Cabinet, it was {.aid, had appointed ;i committee to consider further retrenchment, especially in the Navy. One hundred and > thiity Liberals are reported to bo pledged to a, reduction of aimaments, and are pressing the Government to reduce the estimates.
