ELEMENTARY AGRICULTURE. THE SUMMER SCHOOL AT GREYTOWN.
SATISFACTORY RESULTS ACHIEVED Tho summer school established at Grey town by the Wellington Education Board, for 'nuking a special study of elementary agriculture and of cottage gardening, is progressing in a manner thrtt i.s very satisfactory. The school is one established for public school teachcro, and it is intended to continue it on future occasions, consequent upon thesuccesa that has' marked the initial session. It is popular with the teachers because of its intrinsic value, and also by reason of the fact that it will obviate attendance at the regular Saturday classes for teachers that were held in various centres' of the educational district, and which were found irksome by many who attended them. There were eighteen pupils enrolled at the spimcr scnodi, and., seventeen have been In re-, gulai* attendance As a matter of fact, there have been two visitor pupils at the school during the week now closing, so that nineteen partook of tho instruction given. Mr. Davies, the board's instrucor, liaa been in charge of the school, and 'h& has paid special attention to botany nnd elementary chemistry as they affect H.'itarei study in gardening in the schools. The Scjjopl 'Avfls officially opened by the, chairman ''of tho board (Mr. Les) and the Chief Inspector (Mr Fleming), and during the W&ek now closing an official vifcit was paid /p, it by Inspector Tennant, who TQports -that he was well satisfied with the enthusiasm of the class and tho work done. An excursion to Waio-h-oni Grirge.\vas made- on Wednesday last as part of llje instructional course, when special lessons in nature btady were given. The duration of the school is. to bo two weeks, and those teichers who are attending it hare had a week's leave from oidinary duties granted to them.
