THEIR PRINCIPLE AFFIRMED., BY A CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE. There has been division of opinion amongst Ihe members of the City Council's Market Committee as to the advisableness of establishing municipal markets in Wellington, and quite a number of long discussions have taken place on the matter, dm ing recent months without finality being reached. Some time ago it was announced that a decision adverse to founding a market had been come to, but while this was in a sense correct it was not definite, it being contingent on the ascertaining of opinions horn certain public officers, which wero lo be submitted to a subsequent meeting of the committee, when the matter would come up for final decision. A meeting of tho committee was held yesterday, when (it is" understood) a decision was' come to recommending the City Council to establish municipal markets on a site indicated hi the committee's leport. Tho recommendation referred 'to, liowever, was not arrived at in a full meetino of the Market Committee, and it is intended to have the whole question threshed out when the report of the committee comes up for open consideration at this evening's meeting of the City Council.

The committee of the council of New Zealand Underwriters met in Wellington yesterday and dealt with various matteis. Those present were Mr. Jas. Edgar, of Christchurch, general manager of the Victoria Insurance Company; Mr. R. M. The clerk of the Karori Borough Council publishes in our advertising columns to-night a notice to residents in the borough. At 2 o'clock to-morrow Messrs. W. H. Morrah and Co. will soil by public auction in their rooms, Willis-street, household furniture and effects, the contents of an eight-roomed house. A legal notice in reference to the sale of certain liqueurs is advertised in tonight's Poat. A young lady, acquainted with private school methods, hopes, if the inducement be satisfactory, to organise shortly a private school at Island Bay. Particulars are advertised.
