A PERTINENT QUERY. WHARF LABOURERS' STRIKE.
ARBITRATION AWARDS. CONSISTENT OR OTHERWISE. By Telegraph.— Press Association,— Copyright. (Received January 10, 10.35 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Sydney Labour Council passed a resolution in support of the wharf labourers at Newcastle. Mr. Kavanagh, ex-presideut, raised a point whether the council was consistent in doing so. Delegates had, night after night, cried out in supporf. of arbitration, and when a union which had an award became dissatisfied with it tho men went on strike. Tho council decided to support them. THE STRIKE OF LABOURERS. POSITION UNALTERED. Bj Tejeffraph.— Prr»9 Association.— Copyright. SYDNEY, 9th January. No unionist wharf labourers offered themselves at the Newcastle or the Illawarra Company's wharves to-day. The work of loading and discharging was being done by the crews of the vessels and free labourers. The North Coast Company was practically unaffected, as it has employed non-unionists for some time. The position at the Newcastle wharves is unaltered.
