JAPANESE IN VANCOUVER. ANOTHER FIGHT. THREE WHITE MEN WOUNDED.

While three firemen were walking in a street in tho Japanese quarter of the. town one of them stumbled, and ,in -his fall broke a shop window. A number of Japanese immediately surrounded the whit© men, all throe of whom were wounded — one seriously. Four Japan6se have been arrested in connection with the affair. The incident is interpreted in some \ quarters to mean that the Japanese are* resentful over the September rioting, and eager to take advantage of any opportunity of securing revenge. • .The riots In September resulted in tho wrecking of many Chinese and Japanese shops. It wa3 allegixl at the time that tho trouble was" engineered by professional agitators from. Washington State. Japan did not maks an international -incident out of the riots, Canada expressing regret for the occurrence, and giving assurances that^ measures woultt be taken to prevent similar incidents taking place in the future. Despite precautionary measures Japanese continue to reach Canada in considerable numhers. , Under an agreement subsisting between Canada and Japan, the latter ha 3 convenanted' to grant one pass & month' and- no more to an immigrant from each of her 40 dis- i tricts, or in all fISO pasEcs per annum. Tims (the recognises tho immigration of these 480 subjects, hut tho' trouble has been that the Japanese obtain 1 & pass to Honolulu, to which their immigration is npt limited, and aftir a few months' sfay there enter- Canada. Japan has disclaimed all resoon&ibility for these immigrants, and th<>. Canadian Government professes itself helpless to stop the influx without further agreement with, Japan.
