ACTION OF BRITISH GUNBOAT. GERMAN FIRM INVOLVED. AN EXPLANATION. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. (Received .December 18, 8.20 a.m.) BERLIN, 17th December. In connection with the .recent seizure on tho island of Abu Musa, Moenckhaus, senior partner in the German firm involved, declares that tho action of the British gunboat Lapwing in making seizures was unjustifiable, since there were no coal or firearms on Abu Musa. The. firm only worked oxide mines under 1 legal contract to Moenckhaus. It is believed the incident will soon be settled amicably. The Lapwing seized a quantity of stores, coal, arms, and products of oxide mines belonging to the firm of Moenckhaus, on tho ground that they wore contraband of war. German and English firm's hold concessions from rival sheikhs, who each claim authority over the inland. Some Berlin newspapers have angrily attributed the action of the British to jealousy at the competition of German shipping companies. The island is -in the Persian Gulf.
