J AUCKLAND, 4th December" The memorial stone of the new girls' grammar school was laid in the presence of a large gathering this afternoon by the lion George Fowlds, Minister for Education. Sir Maurice O'Rorke presided. In the course- of his speech, Mr. Foivlds said thnl when the building waa completed it would be ihe most commodious and best-equipped school of the kind in the Dominion. The present aim in their cduci'tinn system was lo make it nob a ladder but an inclined plane, whereby the children would be enabled, with lesa trouble than their fathers and brothers had experienced, to march along tho educational pathway to higher scholastic lie" referred to the benefits that were expected ,to accrue from tho visit of the Inspector-General of Schools lo the Old Country, and in alluding lo the attention now given to technical education he said that tho full benefits of this system of education and scientific side of education was also at.tended 10.
