A TEST CASE. ! [bI TMKGBAPH.— PRB9S ASSOCIATION.] DANNEVIRKE, This Day. At the last sitting of the S.M. Court the case of Fairhurst v. the Cyclopedia Company, an action to recover an amount paid on the New Zealand Cyclopedia, was heard. The claim was based on the allegation that the cyclopedia was not of the character represented by the defendant's canvassers. Mr. T. G. RusselJ, of Christchurch, for the company, argued for a nonsuit. In a lengtliy judgment ibis znorning, Mr. James, S.M., upheld counsel's contention. Twenty-seven cases of a similar nature depended on the judgment.
Owing to an oversight on the part of the secretary of the Sunday School Union when sending in the list of winners of prizes and certificates in the examination, the names of scholars fiom the Mount Cook Division of St. John's Sunday Scjioql were omitted from last night's Post. The names, with number of marks gained, are as follows: — John A. Allan, 79; R. T. Matson, 74; Dilys Jones, Douglas Johnston, 68; D. F. M'Arthur, Ernest Guise, 62; • Qlyn Jones, 59 ; William Ferguson, 52 ; Edgar Renner, 51 ; William Arcus, John Johnston, 48 j Jessie Johnston, William Muir, Emrys Jones, Oliver Quartermain, 45. Detectives arrested two waiters employed at Sherry's Restaurant, New York, and, on searching' their rooms fouud large quantities of stolen jewellery. Among) the recovered proporty was a gold "vanity" box incrustea with 358 diamonds and 63 sapphires worth £3000. It was claimed by . Mr«. W._K.
