A STORMY VOYAGE.

SHIP ROUGHLY HANDLED. [Bl TALEGBAPH.— PBBSS ASSOCIATION-! AUCKLAND, 31st July. An exceptionally boisterous passage was experienced by the ship MacDiarmid. She left Newcastle on 10th July for Coquimbo, and in twenty days sustained damage to the extent of £1000 or £2000. On Monday week last, during a gale of hurricane force, the foretopmast and all the foresails were carried away, and the mizzen and mainmasts were sprung. During the day a .complete set of sails was lost. The .cargo shifted, giving the vessel a considerable list. The mate (Borries) was • washed overboard and washed back <again, ajid members of the crew were ■slightly injured in clearing the wreckage. A sudden calm set in next day, ■and for several days the vessel drifted .towards, the New Zealand coast until ' Sunday ' morning, when another heavy ■sale was experienced, lasting till Moii,dajs night. There was a tremendous 'sea running, and the ship stood out ifrom the land. A considerable number

of sails was lost, and the crew moved about the decks knee-deep in water, hanging to life linep. A great deal of provisions was lost, and everything movable on deck and below was carried, away or broken. The vessel is making little water, but it is feared she is strained. All the crew received injuries to their hands while clearing the wreckage.
