CIVIL SERVANTS.
Yesterday afternoon tlio fhst conference of delegates of the newly-organised Civil Servants' Association wns begun in tbo rooms ot the secretary (Mr. <jT. D. Avery). Mr. J. H. Tresder, who holds a briof for Dunedin and lnvercargill, '"s the only ai rival from abto.id, but other centres aTe represented by local ofiiacrs — Auckland by Ale3Brs. M. Fraeer and G. AUport, Wellington by Messrs. M. Pox, E.-'l'regear, und G. E. Adams, New Plymouth by Mr. A. H. Holmea, Napier by Mr. Keemin. It jb expected that Christ* church will also arrange to liavo a voicft in the assembly. The object of the gathering wns outlined by Mr. C. R. C. Robieson, who was subsequently invited 1 to preside, but he explained that pressure of other duties would prevent him fioiu holding Oflice of any kind. Mr. E. Tiegear was then appointed chairman. Among the principal items on the order paper are classification, superannuation, olid annual leave. It .is expected that th» programme will occupy two or three days. The meeting is 'not open lo the press.
