CATTLE-DRIVING IN IRELAND.

IT COULD EASILY BE ENDED. ' A JUDGE'S REMARKS. By Telegraph.— Press Aasociuticu.— Copyright. v LONDON, 30th July. In the Land Judges Court at Dublin yesterday, Mr. Justice Ross, in sentencing six men to three months' imprisonment for interfering with the receiver and management of an estate in Roscommon county by expelling sheep, strongly urged that cattle-diriving could easily be ended if the Estates Commissioners withheld advances for land purchase in places where intimidation was practised. His Honour added that the commissioners might be restrained, as they were tho servants of the Executive and were bound to obey. It was unthinkable that public money should bo used in furthering conspiracy against property.

It is a hard matter to get magistrates in soipe parts of Iroland to convict persons charged with driving cattle otf lands which it is held should be given up for subdivision. Last month sixteen men were, for the third time, arraigned on a charge of driving cattle off a farm at Roscomroe. At the two previous hearings tho Bench was evenly divided, and the cases were adjourned. At the thirfl new magistrates tat, five of whom wero in favour of sending defendants for trial and five against, and the chairman, amid laughter, said theie must be another adjournment.
