EXTRA EDITION. TO-DAY'S PARLIAMENT. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
• The Council met at 2.30 p.m. The Hon. Mr. Beehan was granted leave of absence for four days. ;Tho Attorney-General moved the second reading of the Pure Food Bill, which passed the Lower House on the 19th inst. Dr. Findlay explained that the measure was an adaptation of the English Act. Every civilised country was trying to ensure for its people a pure food supply. Any person who made profit out of fraud was a criminal and should bs dealt with as such. He' adduced a number of arguments in favour of the Bill, and said it should be made an ofl'ence for any baker to sell a loaf of a less weight than that represented by the salesman. He hoped the Bill would have an easy passago I tlirough the Council. ■ The Hon. S. T. George approved the attempt to prevent adulterati6i: of food. (Left sitting.) HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
