BOXING TOURNAMENT.
A very, liberal bill of attractions is to be presented at the boxing carnival to bo hold at His Majesty's Theatre, Courtcnay-place, on Wednesday night next. .The principal interest will no doubt centre in tho meeting of J. Gosling (Wellington), and J. Godfrey (Auckland). Godfrey, who won tho English featnerweight championship in 1903, nnd New Zealand championship at the tournament held in this city last year, has been in Wellington for some days, and' is in strict training, and is very conSdcnt of tho result. Gesiing is popular locally, and his fisT.t essay as :i professional boxer will be watched with interest. Ho is a clover boxer, and is no less confident than his oppo.iSnt. Dr. Napier M'Lcan will control liis contest, as well as the amateur contnst for featherweights, which should provide good boxing. The competitors will be J. Gould (Timaru), R. Trcsizo (Ashburton), W. Crawford (Ohau). and Sanderson (Auckland), and tho prizo will be a valuable trophy prosonfed by the association. Furthor in tcrc3t should bo attached to this event, by the fact that Gould nnd Tresizu fought a draw last night in Christchurch for the featherweight amateur championship of Canterbury. His Excclloncy tho Govornor will bo prosent on Wednesday, and thtf Right Hon. Sir Joseph Ward, and his Worship the Mayor (Mr. T. W. Hislop) have acceptod invitations. All arrangements for. the rarnivoJ have been completed, and tho box plan waa opened at Armit's this morning. On tho following Wednesday (31st July) the carnival will be continued, whon T. Traccy, of Wellington, and R. Turner, of Sydney, will box for the light-weight professional championship of the- colony. CONTESTS AT CIIRISTCIIURCII. CHRISTCIfuRCH, 19th July. Middle — Nash beat Gihr.our. Feathnr — A. Tresi^o (Ashburton) met P.. N. Gould (Timarn), a draw. Light — R. Mitvze (Christchurch) beat C. E. Wright (Christchurch). Heavy — J. .J. Lloyd (Ashburton) beat W. J. Robertson (Ashburton).
