In the Federal Senate Mr. Pearce asued if it was correct that Ministers intended to approach Uic ether Governments iateTested in the Pacific cable with a vicy of reducing press rates, so that more Commonwealth news -could be published in tho European papers. He favoured Sir William Lyne's suggestion to have Commonwealth news sent through tho Pacific cable by the Commonwealth Parliament, which would then have come control over the news caoled. Tho Vice-Presidonb ' (Senator Erviiie) replied that tho question ot reduction of cable rates liad not been considered at any Cabinet moating ho had attended, but the Government had under consideration from time to time tho advisability of supplementing^ news sent to Britain on Australian affairs.
