THE BLACK-PREIsIYSLAV CONCERTS. The second recital by the Black-PTemy-slav Concert Party is to be given this evening in the Town Hall, and there 1 should be a large attendance. The- p.irty comprises four musicians of exceptional . ability, as was proved at the first concert, given on Thursday evening. Mr Andrew Black, the British turitone, is to contribute some of his b?st iongs this evening; Mt Leopold Premvslav, the Polish violinist, will play popalar ac well as classic selections ; Miss Rosina Buckmann, the Nen- Zealand soprano, has some excellent items ; and Miss Bessie Beattie, the Australian piaciste, will again be heard in solos, as well as playing the accompaniments The third concert is to be given next Mo^d^y. MUSICAL UNION. The Musical Union is to produce "Hiawatha" at the Town Hall next Friday evening under the baton of Mr. Itobt. Parker. The cantata, which is to be given in its entirety, will be interpreted by a chorus and* orchestra of 250 ■performers. The principal soloists will be Madame Emily Bri.-rgs, of Wanganui, anrl Mr. Hamilton Hodges, of Auckland, these vocalists having been specially engaged for tho occasion. AVhen " HiaV7atha' ; _wa3 partially given by the union, some three years ago, Mr. Hodges scored a success in the leading part. Subscribers bave booked heavily at the Dresden. The seating plans will bo available for the general public on Tues. -lay next. Mr. A. M. Lewis is the union's secretary. Variety roncerts are to be given by the I'Vivolity Entertainers in O'Donnell's Hall, Kilbirme, next AA'cdnesday and Thursday in aid of the funds of the Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society. Tic concerts will be (jiven under tho patios:a«e of ths Mayor of AVcllington and other prominent citizens, and a piogramme of entsrtuining items has been arranged. The concerts will be j^ivoii uiidei the direction of Miss M. Easson. A coiicert is to be given in St. John's Schoolroom next Tuesday evening by tho St. John's Young AA'omen's Bible Class (Mount Conk). An interesting pio. gramme has been arranged, one of the items being a dialogue by members of the class. The List meeting of the Conrtenayplace Social Institute took the form of an elocutionary recital, arranged by Mus Tonics. 'I he programme corapiised recitations and musical items, and, judging by Hl2 applause, was very much appreciated by those present.
