For tho corresponding period of last year tho revenue was £123,978 and the expenditure £73,626. The estates of forty -two deceased persons wore placed under the charge of the Public Trustee during the month of April. Owing to the inability of the Government to secure a suitable vessel for the completion of the marine survey of tho coast of New Zealand, from tho point where the Penguin ceased work, thfc project has been abandoned. Both tho Hinomoa and the Tutanekai are unsuitable, and the estimated cost of tho work (£32,000) was also a stumbling block. An Ordcr-in-Council is published in this wcak'n Gazette authorising the construction of an aerial tramway between tho mainland and tho island at Island Bay. It is laid down that theiramlinc shall bo for tho use and benefit of tho public ; the faies are to bo approved by the Minister for Marino, and the privileges are to continue in force for fourteen yeais, and not to bo parted with without tho written consent of the Minister for Marino. Ghuzncc-street has been exempted fiom the operations of section 117 of tho Public Works Act. Regulations regarding tho erection of private telephone lines arc gazetted. In its representations to the Government urging the speedier prosecution of tho railway improvement work between Wellington and Pctone, the Petonc Borough Council will have the support of tho Hutt Borough Council.
