NOTES FROM DUNEDIN.
£ur TELEGBAI'H. — rREBB ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, This Day. Tho epidomic of pillaging ship's cargoes, which is in ovidenco at other centres just now, is not noticeable at Dunedin to any extent worth mentioning. Tho lnsC occasion of note was at Christmas, whon a certain quantity ■of whisky was stolen. ""Up to within the last week the New Zealand wheat market has been the highest in tho world." This remark was made by a prominent flour miller Cab-drivers and expressmen aro not having too good a timo just now, o^ving to the riso in horse feed. Last year chaff was £3 per ton, and oats 2s 3d a bag. Tho present prices are £5 per ton for chaff, and 15s per bag for oata. Ono of the leading men on tho rank states that he had to let a mare worth £50 go for less than half that figure rather than keep her through the winter. Tho upward tendency in prices is ascribed to the recent drought. In connection with tho close of the Dunedin University football match on Saturday a peculiar incident occurred. Puton, for Dunedin, failed in a shot at gonl just on call of time, and as the bill foil over the goal line the bell denoting "no time" sounded. Adams^ of the ' Varaity team, instead of forcing, whipped tho ball up and began to streak towards Dunedin's line. Ho was well on his journey when the r.eferea blew his whistle, but Adams went on and touched down. The 'Varsity team claim a win by a try to nil, which tho Dunedin toam disputes. The. Rugby Union will to-night decide the point at issue, which has given rise to considerable discussion in football circles.
