Dr. Te Rangi Hiroa is gazetted a health officor for tho Maoris. The Rev. W. Fancourt, M.A., is { gazetted an Officiating minister under tho Msrriago Act. Dr. J. H. G. Robertson has been appointed a public vaccinator for the Wellington district. Mr. John Young is gazetted P.egistrar ; of Marriages, Births, and Deaths for tho Featherstcn district. Mr. J. G. Harkness, president of tho Wellington Chamber of Commerce, left . for the South last night. I Lord Plunket left for Napier and Gisborpe yesterday. His Excellency is expected to return next Thursday even- J ing. j "The Rev. J. D. Russell lias been appointed a trustee of tho Taita Cemetery in phefc of the late Mr. \V. A. Fitzhetbert. The Minister of Lands (Hon. R. j M'Nab) left for the South last night. Ha expects to return to Wellington on Sunday. Tho Government Biologist (Mr. T. W. Kirk) will leave for Auckland on Monday to attend £he A. and P. show in that city. Mr. T. R. Fleming, Chief Inspector or ' Schools,' has beer elected chairman of the Victoria College Council for tha ensuing year. Mr. Wmi Clark, of Upper Hutt, has bee? appointed an officer under the Fisheries '.Conservation Act and the Animals Protection Acts. Captain W.. Eobbs, Hutt Valley Rifles, has resigned his commission, and his n»me has been placed on the active list, unattached, with rank of captain. Passenger from th«> South by the Mararoa this morning included Dr. Hocrg, tha Roys. Rankin, Laverty, Father Baonon, and Captain Falconer. Mr. Alex. Shand, of the Chathams, is at present in Wellington on business connected ,with various matters relating to the islands. It is his intention to return by the s.s. Ripple on Ist June. Miss Am* Murphy's farewell concerts in Naw Zeaaand (telegraphs our Dunedin correspondent) have proved to be not Merely complimentary. The net result of the Wellington "send-off" is £86, and 1h.3 Dunedin concert brought in as nearIj as can be calculated £115 not. Messrs. Cooper, of Wellington, R. R. Goulding, ii Napier, and K. Graham, of Auckland, three surveyors, have accepted engagements to undertake surveying in the Scltkngor district, Malay West, Straits Settlement. They leave Wellington for Singapore and the Straits at the end of .next week. Many residents of Wellington will ragreb to heay of the death of Mr. Wm. Dawson, who at one time Bad an import ironmongery business in the Post Office block' Mr. Dawson, who diod ai Kew, Melbourne, on the 26th ult., was in his 83rct| year. He left Wellington j some twenty years ago. Mr. H. fl. Southwell, a well-known Sydney resident and concert manager, is ' in Wellington on a double mission. He comes partly on holiday and to arrange a comprehensive concert tour for Mr. Andrew Black, the English baritone, and <|U.
