,o» NEW ZEALAND BUGBY UNION. MEETING OF THE MANAGEMENT j COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Management Committeo of the New Zealand Rugby Union was held last evening. There were present Messrs. G. H. Dixor^^-hairman), N. Galbraith, E. Wylie,". Hyams, Isaacs, J. H. Laughton, A. Laurenson, and Walbnrton. CONCERNING THE PRESS. Tho New Zealand Times Co. wrote asking that special provision should be made for the accommodation for reporters on the line at matches played under the jurisdiction of the union. It was rosolved to reply that tho union does not think it advisable to allow reporters on the touch line, but tho committee would soe that satisfactory arrangements for the accommodation of reporters are made on all future occasions. Mr. Dixon suggested that the New Zealand Union and the Wellington Union should combine and, with the Athletic Park Company, endeavour to have a special stand built for reporters. It was also suggested that a conference should bo held between the union and representatives of the press with regard to the matter of accommodation. THE "ALL BLACK" PROFESSIONALS. The Hawkes Bay Union forwarded a copy of the resolution it had passed in reference to urging the discouraging of the proposal to form a professional team to visit England. Mr. Laughton thought it should be given out officially thafc_ the New Zealand Union was of opinion that the proposal should be discouraged and discountenanced by local unions. Ho moved that circulars be sent to the local unions to this effect. An amendment was moved by Mr. Walburton that the letter should bo received. Mr. Laughton said the movement was progressing and certain Wellington players had been approached. It would be too late to move if they waited for an announcement to be made. The men would then be bound. Mr. Wylie thought tho union should do its utmost to discourage the projected scheme. Other speakers considered there was no need for anxiety on the part of the union. Mr. Laughton's motion was carried. THE AUSTRALIAN TOUR. The New South Wales Union wrote intimating that in view of the outcome of negotiations to date the proposal for tho Now Zealand team to play a irmtch at Melbourne during its tour of Australia should bo abandoned. Tho letto* was received. A request was received that the New Zealand team which is to visit Ansfcralia should play a match at Bathurst against tha Western Districts. It was docided .that the programme having been decided upon it would be impossible for tho match to be arranged. The Now South Wales Union also wrote asking tho I7ew Zealand body to appoint representatives to meet in conference in Australia for tho purpose of drafting anew agreement to replace the one now in existence governing intercolonial matches. Tho old agreement, oxpires with the present Now Zealand tour. It was decided that two representatives of tho Now Zoaland Union should attend the conference. INTER-ISLAND MATCH. Mr. H. W. Kelly, one of the selectors of tho North Island and New Zealand teams, wrotb asking how many men xvero to be selected in each of tho above teams. ]t was decided that seventeen players should bo selected in tho North Island team and tho samo number in the South Island. It was resolved that iiho New Zealand team which is to visit Australia should consist of twenty-two men. It was resolved that the selectors ot the North Island team should be aßltcd to meet at Wellington on the 25th inst. to selocfc tha team and so avoid tho picking of tho team by correspondence. Tlie Wanganui Union nominated H. L. Abbott (back), J. Hogan and A. Guscott (forwards) for places in tho North Island toam. Tho Nelson Union submitted tho names of W. E. Smith (back), and H. Sparrow (forward). Sonth Canterbury nominated W. Scott, W. Carlton, and W. Melvin (forwards). GENERAL. Tho Wanganui Union applied for the sum of £15 for tho purpose of couraging school football in its district The Nelson Unidn also asked for some assistance for tho same purpose. It was resolved that all applications for help in this direction be placed beforo tho union by 15th Juno. Tho suspension of an Otago player for accepting a present of a watch and refusing to return it when desired to do so by his union was removed at the instance of tho Otago Union. The suspension of another Otago player who refused to attend an enquiry was ateo removed. The Hawkes Bay Union wrote stating that it would px»test strongly against any alteration in the present boundaries
iof the union. It was decided to inform I Hawkes Bay that the matter of boundj aries would be considered on 23rd inst., I and if any alteration was contemplated they would be notified. Several other unions also wrote in conection with the matter of boundaries. The meeting went into committee to consider tho applications for the position of secretary of the union. The Association football match. V.M.C.A. v. Northern Wanderers, at Miramar to-morrow, is creating great interest in Association circles. Up to the present both teams hold an unbeaten record, and .as, 1 the majority of the players taking part have learned "soccer" in the Home Country, a good exposition of the gams is anticipated. In addition to tho above match, Diamonds will meft Swifts and Ramblers will try conclusions with Rovers.
