HOCKEY.

The eighth annual meeting of th< United Hockey Club will take place at the Occidental Hotel on Monday evening. The report stites that the committed congratulates the members on the continued success of the club. The first eleven won the senior championship for the seventh time. The junior eTevea won the championship in their division for the fourth time, and the Palmer Cup outright. In interprovincial matches the club was represented by W. E. Pearson, F L. Ashbolt, C. Hickson, B. A. Wey. bourne, G. Johnston, W. J. Organ, L Elliott, W. R. S. Hickson, and' G. Smyth. The thanks of the club are dut to Messrs. W. E. Bcthuno and E C. Bat kin. for gifts. The financial position of the club is satisfactory. The ro« ceipts totalled £55 4s lOd and the expenditure £31 4s 9d. Tho assets ar< valued at £33 5s Id and there are n» liabilities. The Wellington Hockey Club held itt annual meeting at the "Empire Hotel. Tlfe balance-sheet showed the finances tt be in a most satisfactory position. Re« grot was expressed that "the field record of ihe club in tho past season was not so successful as in the previous year. Tho seniors had to be content with second place, whilo the junior eleven, which held a commanding position in the competition until the last match, through want of combination, threw away its chance of winning the cup. The following players were congratulated on securing representative honours: — E J, Reid, R. Staples, N. K. Smythe, and A. Fell. The committeo desired to pla« ou record the very great services rendred to tho club by Mr. J. H. Merrie, honorary secretary for the past fivt years, nnd whose resignation was accepted with extreme recrret. It was decided that practice be started on 6th .April. Plans have been drawn for a Government shelter on Mount Houldsworth, Wairarapa. Tho house is to havo three rooms, of which two will bo reserved for sleeping. The mountain, which is reached via Masterton, is noted for its beautiful forest and waterfall scones. It is a region where the so-called "mountain lily," really a great buttercup, is said to make a bla2e of gold. Miss Kate Stewart, of tho Langer drosscutting school, will meet pupils noxt Monday afternoon at tho Volunteer Hall. Lower Hutt.
