* PROPOSED NEW SCHOOL READERS. [BY TELEGRAPH. — PBESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, This Day. At the Bpard of Education^ meeting to-day Mr. Petrie, Chief Inspector, urged the desirability of milking a in the principal series of school readers in schools throughout the colony. They had been many years in use, and were becoming stale to teachers and pupils. He suggested the board should^ decide upon the adoption of a new set of principal readers, beginning in the year 1909, and that a committee be appointed .at an eaTly dote to examine and report on the recent series of school readers, with a view of selecting the best. The board deferred action, awaiting the proposals of the Education Department. The board also considered the request from the Assistant Masters' Association urging the abolition of 'payment of teachers on the attendance basis. The board j decided to forward a communication to tho Minister of Education, and call his ' attention to the anomalies of the position.
