LABOUR AND THE MUNICIPAL ELECTION.
- * to the rorron. Sir, — As a supporter of the Labour Party I feel sorry at their attitude regarding the compilation of the municipal roll. There may have been some mistakes, but it looks to me mighty like an attempt to raise an interest among thoir supporters in the forthcoming elections; as there seems to be very Tittle else in the present agitation. If it accomplishes its object well and good, as anyone who is desirous of getting on tho roll has still the opportunity ; bqt what I do object to is the 'undeserved mud-slinging at tho ?»:■ vanis of the council indulged in Ly 36ine members of the party. Such j tactics alionate their supporters, and havo been the ruin of the Labour Party in tho past, so for goodness sake let them drop it and roll up and assist the employees of the council to make a good* roll so that we may have a thoroughly representative council. I understand the compilation of tho roll is in the hands of Mr. Ames. Well, I have had the pleasure of that gentleman's acquaintance in his public capacity for a number of years, and a more conscientious, competent official, is not to be found , so we may safely leave the matter in his hands, as I am •urii that gentleman would resign his position rather than do anything knowingly to injure the Labour or any other party. ( Hoping to see the Labour Representative Committee set to ' work at once and help the council's official if necessary. — I am, etc., T. M. E. Wellington, 18th March.
