FIRE IN A SCHOOL.
GREAT LOSS OF LIFE. HEROIC CONDUCT OF MISTRESS. PRESS ASSOCIATION. OTTAWA, 27th February. Forty children were burned to death in a, firo which occurred at the Hoche* laga Proestant school, Montreal. At tho moment of the outbreak there wore two hundred and fifty children in the building, and theso were penned in by fire and smdke. The principal,' Miss Maxwell, perished while making a desperate attempt to save the smaller children. Her body was found surrounded by the corpsaa of children. NO ESCAPES PROVIDED. (Received Februaiy 28, 8.58 a.m.) OTTAWA, 27th February. Lator accounts reduce the death-rate at the Hochelagn, school fire. Tho total loss is seventeen. The absence of fire escapes was responsible for tho loss of life.
