JBT ELMCTBIC TELEGRAPH. — COPTBIOHT.] ♦ ANOTHER AMERICAN TRAIN SMASH. HALF A JIUNDRED CASUALTIES. PB.ESS ASSOCIATION. N..W YORK, 25th February. The Pennsylvania-Chicago 18 hours 1 express left the rails afc a curve and descended an embankment into a shallow part of the river Conemaugh, near Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Fifty passengers wore injurad. Ten are' missing. (American railways seem to be fairly prolific in smashes this year. About New Year there were a couple of fatal accidents, including one on the "Baltimore and Ohio railway, which killed 38 and injured 50. About a week ago an electric train on the New York Central killed 50 and injured many more. In this, and in tho present case, the engine left tho rails at a curve, which apparently indicates an excessive speed. Becent American publications look upon a hundred miles an hour as a perfectly practicable and normal speed for electric trains.) _________________
