SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS.
TO-DAY'S EVENTS. [B* TELEGRAPH. — 1-IISSS ASSOCIATION.] CHMSTCHUKCH, This Day. Tho Australasian Swimming championship meeting was resumed to-day. The weather is fine, but the visitors complain that tho coldness of the water is against fast swimming. The chief events on to-day's programme aro :—: — Half-mile championship, 220 yards, breast stroke championship, and flying squadron race, in which two Australian teams are opposed to ono New Zealand team. Tho entry in the half-mile championship is so large that it will necessitate a division of competitors into two heats, " and to lighten the afternoon's task tho heats were decided to-day and provided interesting racing, giving promise of a close struggle between tho New South and 'Auckland champions, Healy and F. W. Springfield. Those qualifying in the final were Healy, Springfield, and Mason (Victoria), A. M'Millan and G. L. Bull. Results :—: — Half-mile. — First heat : Healy (New South Wales) 1, W. Mason (Victoria) 2, G. L. Bull (New Zealand) 3. Matson (West Australin), and Harrower (Queensland) also started. Time — Healy 13min 20 2-ssec, Mason — 13min 14 l-ssec. Second heat : Springfield 1, M'Millan 2. Bonnet (West Australia), and Hill (Now South Wales) also started. Times — Springfield lomin 31 2-ssec, M'Millan 13min 16scc.
