The teams to represent the Hutt Club in the four-rink match against Newtown, arranged to take place at_ tho Hutt green on Saturday next, will be picked from the following : — Barlcw, Callendav, Eddie, Eliott, Hendry, Hodging, Hollard, Macaskill, Mason, M'Gurk, Mowbray, Ollermhaw, Parsons, Polo, Purdy, Russoll, Slinn, Stevens, Trcvethick, Treadwell, Wagg, Young.
[ A house-to-house canvass is about to be made by officials of the Corporation who are to enrol persons entitled to be on the city's electoral roll. Satisfactory progrjss is reported to have been made yesterday evening at a conference held between representatives of the omployers and employees in the catering, dining, and refreshment places of the city. The object is to arrive at a workable industrial agieement. A meeting of the Convalescent Home trustees was held yesterday morning. Present : Miss Coates (in the chair), Mesdames Grady, Moorhouse, Barron (treasurer), and Pearce (secretary). The matron reported that 14 patients had been admitted, and 13 discharged during the month. The following gifts are acknowledged with thanks : — Fruit from Mrs. Moorhouse ; a ham from Mrs. Krrkcaldie ;" magazines from Mrs. Wilson, Mrs.. Snaddon, and Mrs. Thompson The Newcastle City Brass Band, which holds championship honours for Australia, gave an enjoyable concert on the Basin Reserve last night, the attendance of the public numbering about 4000. The band which intends competing at tho Exhibition contests, goes South this evening. It is in chargo of Bandmaster Barkell. The Wellington Garrison Band, which is to compete at the contest in connection with the Exhibition, will leavo for Lyttelton by the Maheno -this evening. Two of the first cornets are unable to make the trip, but nevertheless the band is considered stronger than ever it was, and Lieut. Herd expects that it will give a very good account of itself. Following are the latest contributions to the band's expenses at Christchurch:—Mr. H. D. , Bell, £2 2s; Messrs. Joseph Nathan and Co., £2 2s ; Hon. C. M. Luke,, Mr. J. S. Swan, and Messrs. Briscoe, M'Neill and Co., £1 Is each ; Messrs. C. Hill and Sons, 10s 6d ; Mr. W. F. Newson, 10s. In the Magistrate's Court this afternoon Francis Louden proceeded against Alfred Cook by means of judgment summons for the recovery of £73 7s 6d. Dr. A. . M'Arthur, S.M., refused to make an order. The Commercial • Agency on behalf of T. Crawford, tailor, sued Benjamin Studlcy for £3 2s 6d, balance owing on a suit of clothes. His Worship nonsuited plainHff with £2 108 costs, on the ground that ho was not jrcady to proceed with tuo case. Mr. Yon Haast appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. .Dix for the defendant. The osnsus industrial statistics ' J 6liow that the value of tbo manufacture arid' repairs in connection with the New Zealand coachbuilding and painting industry rose from . £216,077 in 1900.-, to' £294,818 in 1905, an increase of £78,74] L, or at tbe rate of 36 per cent. The number of works increased from 160 to 183, the amount of wages from £83,356 tO£116,204, nnd the number of hands from 1185 to 1465. The chamois presented to N<w Zealand by tbe EmperoT of Austria are on board the Turakina, which left London on 24th January. The place where they aro to bo liberated is not yet definitely selected. The death is announced in The Times of 21st December of Mr. Isaac Badcock, K.C., a Bencher of the Middle Temple, at the ago of sixty-four. Ho was an elder brother of General Sir Alexander Robert Badcock, and first cousin of Mr. Alfred Badcock, of South Kilbirnio.
