TO-DAY'S PROCEEDINGS. [by telegraph.— tkess association.] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. I The Senate to-day carried Professor ilaclaurin's motion, that the definition oi ■ jurisprudence in the statute degree, [ Bachelor of Arts, be replaced by the following; "The nature of civil law and relations to other kinds of law, the nature of the State and its functions, the administration of justice and its various forms the sources^ of law, the leading divisions of law, the leading ideas involved in a legal system, general principles of legal development, a comparison of leading principles, English Roman law {a knowledge, however, of tho details of thesa systems not being required); and that toe definition of jurisprudence in statuto honours in Arts be replaced by following analytical, historical, and comparative jurisprudence with special reference tv lMigudx. and Roman law." ilr. Cohen's previously ' discussed motion was carried : " That the Senate re,speelfully requests the Minister of Jus"-"-ticetobnng m a 811 l the neit S6S £ O^ ot Parliament to repeal the Law Practitioners Act Amendment Act, 1898:" • v JP-rofessoi- Sale's motion was carried't " That tho statute relating to matriculation be amended by the addition oi the following clause — ' In every year tho date of tlio matriculation examination 6iian be the Monday nearest tho let May. and no person shall be held to have been matriculated in any year unless ho ehaU have fulfilled all the conditions of thia statute on or before that date." Professor Brown's motion was passed in the following amended form: "Thai, the statute, of the B.A. degree 9 ba amended by the addition of the words, ! 'and 'provided he han kept three yeare* terms; provided, further, he has passed jurisprudence and constitutional history in one examination.' " The Rev. Cameron's motion ,w-as carried : " That an intimation be mo4e - in the Calendar that any person not a member of the Senate who desires to tiring any business before the Senate shall bo required, to give notice of the same ta the registrar at least four weeks beforu the annual meeting, and that the registrar,, at, least two weeks before the annual meeting, shall send each member of the Senate a list of business to bo considered, and a copy of all correspondence bearing on the &ame." It was resolved that the subject fo? the Macmillan-Brown Memorial Prize ol! 1898 be a dialogue or dramatic scene on the 'meeting of Milton and Galileo.
