—^ [BT TBLEGIIAPn. — PBE33 ASSOCIATION.! CHDISTCHURCH, 10th January. The annual meeting of the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company was hold yesterday, Sir George Clifford, chairman of director, presiding. The balance-sheet showed that the receipts for the year, including £801 17s 3d balance from last year, amounted to £37,289 2» 3d, and the expenditure totalled £12,147 6s sd, leaving a balance of £24,941 15s lOd. In moving the adoption of tho report and balance-sheet, the chairman said that tho large expansion in business during the last year had necessitated enlargements of the works which would assist in their efficiency and economical working. So far as a forecast could at present bo made there was no cause for misgivings. The ample supply of frozen meat for last beason, so far. from depleting the flocks upon which the company drew, had left, as compared wilh two years ago, an increase in the breeding (lock in the Canterbury diflttict of 300,000 ewes, allowing that a proper number of ewo lambs was now retained. Outside of New Zealand, he was unablo to detect adverse signs, but it was fair to warn producers that there were circumstances which might compel all freezing companies to make an increase in their frecz- i ing charges. The motion for adoption of the repoit and balance-sheet was carried.
The Wellington Navals, under Captain Mcnzies, had a good muster at their weekly drill on Wednesday. All tho detachments are busy owrking up, in view of tho camp at tho end of this month. On Saturday week the Zealandia Cup sailing race, which is competed for annually by tho Potone and Wellington Navals, will bo sailed. Some brainless person Inst night put a fog detonator on tho tram lino near tho Jervoia-quay band rotunda, with the result that at about 10.30 p.m. the wayfarers were startled by a icverbcruting explosion, and a tramcar was thrown SulHeiontly fjr (rom tUo x.iila to hrcnli the electric circuit and put the car in darkness.
