CITY COUNCIL.
LAST NIGHTS MEETING. The City Council met last night, there being present the Mayor (in the- chair) and Councillors MoTrah, Godber, Murdoch, Carmicha.3l, Windc-r, Izard, Cohen, Smith, Frost, Bisf*, M'Laren, and Hindmarsh. Tcndci-3 for leases of the Town Belt wciff referred' to tho Reserves Cornniittc-? with power to act. ! ! Tenders for 'tho centrifugal pump for I the Brooklyn waterworks were referred to tho engineer with power to act. CITY RESERVES. The City Reserves Committee lecommended : — 1. That tho rooms at the Basin Reseive lately occupied by the custodian bo altered and repaired as recommended by the. City Engineer, at an estimated cost of £25, nxii that the use of the I rooms bo granted to the Amateur Athletic Club, the Old Boys' Cricket and Football Club, and the Wellington. Gas Company Club, at a- rental of £5 per annum each. 2. That the Victoria College Amateur Athletic Club be granted: the use of the Basin Reserve on tha 23rd MaTch, 1937, with, permission to charge on tho usual conditions. 3. That the Wellington Cricket A«ooiation be granted' the use of the Basin Reserve on 25th, 26th, and 27th December, 1906, and 15th, 16th, and 18th February, 1907, with permission to oharge, on tho usual conditions. 4. That the -entrance, to the Newtown Park bo altered "as xecommended by the Superintendent of Reserves, at an estimated cost of £55, and that the owners of sections in Roy-stToet be called upon to contribute towards the co&t of erecting a five-feet galvani&ed iron fence between their properties and tho Newtown Park, j 5. That accounts amounting to i>33 be passed for payment. Councillor Izard raised the question of whether permission could be given to charge for admission to the Basin Reserve on Christmas Day. Also the council should see tha,t cricket was not played there on that day during the hours when it would be an annoyance to those who wanted 1 to go to church. Councillor Frost Boid the Cricket Asso- ' datum had gone to a great deal of expense, and' the committee had not considered the question of Christmas Day. The Mayor said he thought £55 would be 1 better spent on the pond at Newtown Park than on altering the entrance. It was a very expensive reserve, and very little was got from it. He moved that clause four bo struck out. The clause relating to Kewtown. Park was adopted after discussion, and tho report us a- whole was then adopted. BYLAWS AND LIGHTING. The Bylaws and Lighting Committee recommended : — '- 1. That tho application of Mr. F. Bee- , thain for permission to erect a building in Pipitea-str-ect on land situated at the rear of two existing 1 buildings be not granted. < 2. That tho application of Mr. J. Di=.een for' permission to build~ at the back paTt of section (A, Brooklyn, bs grapted, upon condition that the entrance to ~ same be authorised as a private way, , to be constructed upon tho usual conditions, and not to be used as a building frontage. The conditions to be registefedi against tho title. 3. That A 'lamp be erected in GrassetT2et as' rceoTTJ Wended by the electrical engineer. 4.
