MISS HARDINGE-MALTBY'S RE-" CITAL. St. Peter's Schoolroom was well filled last night on the occasion of a dramatic and musical entertainment by Mies Har-dinge-Maltby and her pupils. The programme opened; with a bright little Japanese sketch entitled "Chrysanthemum," I played by Miss Lali Benbow, Mifee Elsie Watson, Mr. Chas. Owen, and Mr. F. R. Bust, All the performers acquitted themselves creditably, and the piece was prettily dressed, while particular credit i» due to Mr. Bust who, on account of the indisposition of Mr. Alec. C. Spence, took the part at very ehort notice. Mr. George Toogood gave a good interpret^ tion of "Claude Melnotbe's appeal to Pauline," from the "Lady of Lyons," and was loudly applauded. The next item was the church scene from "Much Ado about Nothing" by Miss Mabel ! HaTdinge-Malfcby <Beatrioe) and Mi. Walter Gorham (Benedick). Miss Har-dinge-Maltby played the part with a degree of vigour and dramatic force which was much, appreciated, and Mr. Gorham also displayed a good perception of the character, and the recital was much enjoyed, Mies Bertha Miles and Miss Rita Simpson played 1 a smartly written society skit, "Shattered Nerves," which greatly amused the audience ; Mr. F. B. Sharp sang a humorous song* "The Curate, ' in good style, and Xfisa Annie Kennedy earned 1 loud applause for the style in which she gave the monologue °7 w - , L - Alden, "Jimmy's Prompt Obedience. berb Townshend. Misa Muriel Pringle played the accompaniments and the in« oidental music. THEATRE ROYAL. ♦1 Th £ f. Icellenfc programme provided by tlie JJuller management during the present week continues to attract largo houses nightly. Last evening tho Dri&coll Bros, were again seen in their laughable^patter comedy which provided much amusement for the large audienoa present. Other items were contributed by tho Powers Bros., Little Clara Keating, Ida Bcrndoe, the Golden Ihioi Aiy Blackic, and others, * STEELE-PAY'NE COMPANY. The Steole-Payne Bellringors gave another of their delightful entertaiam&ts before a large audience at tho On&S House last evening. The vocal numbers, bellrmginjr, instrumental playing," etc., wero of si high order, and gave much pleasure to the audience. The new company is announced' to give two jnor« entextainmente in Wellington. HARRY RICK'ARDS' VAUDEVHXE COMPANY. The box-plan for the short season of Mr. Harry Rickards' Vaudeville Company, commencing on Saturday evening atrtha Opera House, will bo opened to-morrow .moraine; afr 10 o^lock at the Dresden Piano Company. The company terminate its Auckland season this evening. Th» members will play at Wangaoui on Thursday, and Palmarston North, on Friday, arriving here on Saturday. A bright ontertsiinment was held at the Sailors' Rest laat evening. Miss Hogg arranged 'the programme, which was carried out with the assistance of Miss Nellie Hugo, Messrs. Williams, Thompson, Denis, and ' Master Frank Picot. A large number of seamen wera present.
