TRAMWAY SECTIONS.

THE MAYOR'S OPINION. The^ popular topio of tramway sections came under the notice of the* City j Council's Tramway Committee, yesterday. It is understood that the members have conflicting views on a subject which has keenly interested the general public. "Wo are eimply watching things," said the Mayor (the "Hon. T. W. Hislop) to a roporter this morning. The committee had not. yet decided to make any definite recommendations about alterationSj btib tv-as getting data about the trafno over all parts of the lines (a proceeding which Was advocated by the Poet recently). Personally, the Mayor stated, ne did not think any changes would bo made for some time, perhaps four or five years. He considered that it was more a question of shortening extensive sections such as th© Newtown ones, but lengthening others. So long as tho corporation could "eornpe along," ho thought there should be no call to ■ diminish any present penny sections, and he did not believe the council would agree to any curtailment.

Services in connection with the anniversary of the Northland Primitive Methodist Church were held on Sunday, and despite tho adverse weather were well attended. Rev. R. J. Liddell preached in the morning and Rev. C E. Ward iv the evening, nnd tho choir, under Mr. E. L. Danby, rendered suitable anthem?. The concert to bo given to-morrow evening promises" to be very interesting and cnjovablo. Among others, the following will assist : — Misses Nielsen, Luke, Gillespic, Shopcott, and Russell, Mesdames Murdoch and Hose, and Messrs Hnndloy Wells, Cutforth, Murdoch, and Grabham. Lady Plunket has consented to be pntroiie&s to tho now branch of the Young Women's Christian Association, just formed iv Wellington. Her Excellenoy- is alao patroness of the branches in Auck. Jand wid Chrutohiuebu.
