HEAVY FINES INFLICTED. [at TRLBOBAPH.— - PBESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, 17th September. At Tapanui to-day John Munro and James Robertson were charged with keep' ing for sale alcoholic liquor in the noI license district of Clutha. Mr. J, F. N. Fraser, Crown Prosecui tor, sa ! d tMuuro was a storekeeper ot Kefco, and Robertson lived with and [ worked for him. A very systematic, i somewhat extensive, and exceedingly open trado of aly gvog-«elHng hod been carried on. A number of information!) had been laid against Munro flnd his wife, but as Munro had pleaded guilty, all exospt one charge- would bo withdrawn. Mr. W. Sinclair, who appeared for accused, denied that an extensive business had been carried on. When Munro pur* chased tho business ho did not think there would be any harm in keeping a supply of liquor and treating his customers occasionally when they paid accoimta. Ho had no idea 6f selling it, but ho found when customers had a second nip " they' would insist on paylhg for it. No liquor wn» supplied except to v customens nb tho store.
