SCOTT v PEARCE. The wrestling fixtures at His Majesty'? Thcatro on Saturday evening produced somo keen struggles, which were watched with manifest interest by a large audience The- patrons got rather too' much" for their money", for midnight arrived bofore the programme had been more than half completed Mr. T. Toohoy, of Auckland, was appointed referee by the spectators. The first item was a catch-as-catch-can bout botween two amateurs, M'Clure and Russell, and the latter soon ostablished his supremacy. In the same stylo Carroll, of Taranaki, and ' Moana Paratene, from the Mastcrlon district, gave a lively display which | was declared a draw. After Harry Grolh and Harry Sando had given an j exhibition of heavy-weight lifting, the ''star turn" of the evening arrived. This was a contest between two champions, Harry Pearco, of Australia, and Robert Scott, of New Zealand. Scott apaared to have the j/hysical advantages on his side, with a height of 6ft 3in and a weight of 14st 71b— his muscular development and excellent condition being evident. Poarce, an older man, stood about sft lOin, 12st 61b in weight, and somo of this weight seemed to be superfluous. 'However this veteran, who has »yon many laurels, showed tnat thougn comparatively old in j'onrshe was ola also in wisdom, and his agility and skill wore amply demonstrated. Tho athletss opened with catch-as-catch-can. In tho first bout Scott, after a long-sustained struggle, by a supremo effort, scorod a fall. Tho next was cleverly won by Pearce. Tho final round fell to Scott after a comparatively brief struggle GraecoRoman was tho next typo of combat After an exciting tussle Scott setmed to Have a chance of securing a fall when some one, outside the ring, called "time." Scott relinquished his grip, and it was then discovered that some one had hoajced him. The wrestling will be continued to-night. GraecoRoman and Cornish styles have yet to be wrestled, and ono of the competitors must win. In the event of tho match not finishing to-night free passes will bo issued to all present to witness the conclusion of tho contest tho following evening. 6
