r— • A match between the Wellington College and Christchurch High School teams was played this afternoon, and resulted in a win for Wellington by 11 points to 6. Gardiner, Avery, and Johnson each scored a try, Gardiner converting one. Robinson and Seed scored tries for the visitors.

The Regulation of Bellamy's Bill introduced in the Legislative Council by the Hon. R. H. J. Reeves provides that liquor may be sold in Bellamy's at any lime during the sitting of Parliament, but no liquor can be soid one hour subsequent, to the rising of the House of Representatives. Liquor, it is. further provided, may be sold on any Saturday or -Monday, whether the House is sitting or not, but no liquor can be sold between tile hours of 11 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. on Monday. At present the sale of liquor in Bellamy's is governed by the ordinary licensing regulations — that is>lo say, liquoT caii only be sold up to 10 p.m. , ' A deputation, twenty strong, including several ladies and four legislators, waited upon the Hon. G. Fowlds, Minister of Education, to-day. The deputation was an outcomo of the recent meeting held in JNewtown. at which Mr. Wra. jvl'Lean gave a lecture on ''The Po-wei* of Suggestion" with Tegard to the treatment of certain mental diseases. Mr. Barber, M.H.R., introduced the deputation, and H,r M'Lean explained its deeire, which was that the French system of suggestion should be adopted in tho New Zealand asylums and gaols, and that two medical men familiar with the system should also be appointed. Mr. V H. Eraser, epsaking as an hon. inspector of asylums, said he had lonnd there were very many people in the asylums who suffered merely from delusions. Replying, the Ministei Kiid he was not unfamiliar with the literature on the subject. He recognised tho importance- of the subject, and to some considerable extent was sympathetic with the desire of the deputation. v At tho same time, it was difficult to see how the system of suggestion could be applied to Government institutions. There was a liability of tho mass of the public confounding genuine mental treatment -with charlatanism. Mr. Fowlds said he was quite imprexed with the fast that we should have the best and most up-to-date treatment for our mental institutions, but it would' be a mistake to imagine that the medical men in oi^i asyhims did not give •careful attention to the mental as well as the physica' ireatnicnt of their patients.
