The real crux of the position is the "dog watch" difficulty. The men are determined on its abolition) but it is stated that they are now more inclined to discuss the owners' proposal' tor its abolition at the end of the year. Tha feeling regarding tho imminence of a general strike is leas pessimistic. It has been decided to advance the price of coal in Melbourne ten shillings per ton, and the contractors have announced tho suspension of contracts from to-day.
