LOJAL AND GENEIiAL. * In the Legislative Council yesterday, the Attorney-General gave notice of the introduction of the Arbitration Act Amendment Bill. The Training Ships Bill was put through its final stages, and sent on to the House, and tho Registration of Births Extension Bill and the Opium Prohibition Act Amendment Bill, previously before the Lower House, were also passed. The Council wa6 also treated to a lengthy criticism of the land proposals of the Government by tho Hon. J. D. Onnond. The House devoted practically the whole of the sitting to Estimates. The evening sitting was remarkable for the severe time the Chairman of Committees, Mr. R. M'Kenzie, was subjected to. One of liis rulings created so much dissatisfaction that a motion to report progress was moved by tho Leader of the Opposition, in order that Mr. Speaker might be consulted, and Mr. Massey carried his point by 28 votes to 24. A meeting of the Wellington Association^ will be held early next week to consider tho communication from Mr. M'Donald. We understand that it is very probable that the contest will eventuate about the 18th or 19th Octdßer. The Old Wellington Navak' Association hns accepted an invitation to meet the Old Petone Navals' Association in a Mor-ris-tube rifle match and card tournament. Major Hume, of the Now Zealand Artillery, is to deliver a lecture to the past and present members of the Wellington Naval Artillery next Wednesday. Mr. Tomlinson has presented a photograph of the "White Horse" cutter crew to the Old Wellington Navals' Association. iho anniversary of the Northland Primitive Methodist Church will be celebrated to-morrow. The services will be conducted by the Revs. O. E. Ward and R. J. Liddell. The annual concert will be licld on Wednesday. Mrs. Loie F. Prior will lecture at the Now Century Hall to-morrow evening at 7 o'clock. The first and third prizes in connection with the Christchurch Photographic Society's annual competition have been won by Mr. M'Qregor Wright, formerly of Wellington.
