As an evidence of the celerity of tho : Pacific cable, 'Mr. Chapman, the Federal Postmaster-General, stated in tho House of Representatives- that on Wednesday evening he sent to Southport (England) and Bamneld (British Columbia) for certain information, and received a reply from Southport within an hour, and from Bamfield within a second of the hour.
