WATERSIDE WORKERS. ♦ * CONFERENCE AT WELLINGTON. Tho conference of • waterside workers rosumed its sittings yesterday afternoon. Mr. Young moved, "That the Workers' Compensation . for Accidents Act be amended to provide for an injured worker receiving full wages from the date of the accident, up to and inclusive of the date of recovery, such wages to be at the same rate as that received by the injurod workor up to the time of the acoident." Thia was seconded by Mr. M'Laren pro forma, and he urged that the proper amendment to move to the Act was tnat tho industry should bear the cost of "first aid," and that compensation should bo payable from the date of tho accident when the injury incapacitated the worker for one week. Ho moved an amendment to that effect. Mr. Jackson did not think tho time had yet arrived when the employer could bear the whole of the cost, and it was only fair that the employer and employee should divide jt between them. The amendment was lost by four votes to two, and Mr. Young's motion was carried with the addition that "the industry shall bear the cost of first aid and medical attendance." LEGAL ADVIOK "Legal defence of waterside workers", waß tho next item on the agenda paper. Tho chairman moved, "That the conference rocommonds that tho first council of tho federation be requested to prepare a scheme for the legal defence of individual members of tho federation." This was seconded by Mr,, Young and carried, INSPECTION OF MACHINERY.
