DEATH OF A LEGISLATIVE COUNCILLOR.
HON. D. PINKERTON. In* TJOiEQBAPB. — PRESS ASSOCIATION,! DUNEDIN, This Day. The Hon. D, Pinkerton, 'M.L.C., died this morning. The late Mr. Pinkerton was a native of Scotland, a bootmaker by trade and came to the colony when quite a young man. During the various gold "rushes" in different parts of Otago he went with the bands of gold-seekers from place to Elace, and eventually settled down in 'unedin, where he took a prominent part in the affairs of the Trades Council and other Labour organisations. In 1890 ho secured a seat in the House as representative for Dunedin City, which he retained till he was defeated at the ~eneral election of 1896. In February, 1897, he was appointed by the Seddon Government to^a scat jn the Legislative Council, and was reappointed in 1904.
