LOCAL AND GENERAL. » At a, laTge gathering of West Coasters, held in Hhe Government Buildings today, it was decided to form a West Coasters' Association. Mr. E. J. Fitzgibbon was appointed secretary pro tern. Another meeting will bs held to-morrow evening. Mr. Thos. Carmichael, who recently resigned the .position of President of the Wellington Working Men's Club, was last night re-elected to the office by a large majority. The Wellington Stock Exchange 'is advised that the Talisman ■ Consolidated Qoldmihing Company, Limited, has declared a dividend pf Is per share, payable on the 2nd July. Alfred Baldwin, who was seized with a paralytio stroke at the Opera House on Monday night, and was removed to the Hospital for treatment, is to-day reported to be progressing satisfactorily. Mr.^A. T. Bate, who has been on a visit to Australia, returned to Wellington last night by the Waikare. Special sinking and straight talking characterise tho mission being conducted by ,Rev. W. Lockhart Morton in the Baptist Church, Vivian-street. Last night a large congregation listened with interest to an address on " Clear-minded People^" which the srjeaker divided into five divisions-r-conviction ; conscious acceptance of ' God's offer; consecration to service- ; confession before man ; and consistency of life, each of which was fully dealt with and illustrated by many apt quotations. A duet by >Misa Morton and Mr. Pargetter, and a, solo by the latter, were highly appreciated. The subject for to-night is entitled " Stiff-necked People." Court Sir William Jervois, A.0.F., held its half-yearly meeting in St. Thomas's Schoolroom on Tuesday night, when the following officers were elected for the ensuing term: — 0. R., Bro. W.
