HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Department of Industries nnd Commerce has received this following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, J6th June, 1906:— "Tho mutton markot is firm, and there is a better demand The ayer*ge price of Canterbury is 3Jd per lb for hght-weighte, the supply of. which falls short of demand. Heavy Canterbury weights are> quoted at 3§d pW lb. The average price fof North Island muttom is 3|d \ier lb, for beet quality only, and 3jd for eecond-class quality. River Plate mutton is quoted, at 3£d per lb light-weights, and 3id heavy- ! weights. There" is a pood demand for aill lamb. Stocks on hand aro heavy, aud are widely distributed amongst agents, who are pushing sales. The average price of Canterbury lamb is 4|d,'per lb, and othei brands than Canterbury 4jd per lb. The beef market is quiet but firm, and there ii no change in prices to report. Butter arrivals are very light, and the market is firm at the advance of 1033 for choicest New Zealand brands. Danish is quoted at 112s\ Siberian at 97s per cwt. lue cheese market is steady, and there are only small supplies on hand. White is quoted at 655, and coloured makes 63s pec cwt. The hemp market is very firm, but there is no. change in price. The cocksfoot seed market is steady, the demand only moderate. The average price of 171b bright clean dressed Kew Zealand seed is 47s per cwt. Thore v & fair demand for better grades of kauri gum. The follow-ing-are tho latest quotations: — Ordinary j fair to three-quarter scraped £6 10s, fair half-scraped 80s, brown fair half to threequarter Ecraped 83s, brown pickings (common to good) 475, bush (fair to good pale and amber scraped) £7 10s per cwt. The stock on hand is 1122 tons."
