[BY TBLEGKAFH. — rHKB>> JSSOOUTtOK.I AUCKLAND, 14th June. The inquest in connection with the dealth of Albert Ezzy. who died from injuries received ot the New-Lynn Pottery Ccunpany's works on the 30th May,_ was continued at the hospital this morning. Mr. Cotter appeared on behalf of the Superintending Engineer, and Mr. Alexander on behalf of the deceased's relatives. _ _ ! After hearing evidence, the jury retired for half an hour, and then returned with a verdict that deceased came to his | death through shock, caused by the falling of the boiler. The jury was further of opinion that sufficient precaution was not taken by Mr. Cowlishaw «n the erection of the boiler. The Coroner: This involves a serious question By this do you mean that you consider he was so neglectful that he caus-sd the death of the deceased? The foreman : I think it is implied. The coroner : Then do you mean to say in your verdict that Cowlishaw was guilty; of any crime? The foreman : We simply came to the conclusion set forth. We wore not concerned with the rest. The coroner : Pardon me, you are. I am bound to take the jury's verdict, but it must be concise. The second part leaves it open to doubt as to whether you mean that he was guilty of manslaughter or culpable negligence. Mr. Cotter : I thought that point was cleared up. ,You said that the evidence of Mr. Wetherilt did not justify a verdict of manslaughter If there is any doubt l wnnt to call further evidence. _ fhe coroner : The jury must give a decisive verdict. The jury retired again for a short •period and returned wiiii a verdict " that in the opinion of the jury the deceased's ! death was the result of shock caused 1 through the falling upon him of a boiler at New-Lynn, and that the occurrence was accidental and by misfortune." Tho x jury also added a rider expressing the opinion that in the erection of similar constructions the greatest possible pre- ' cnutionr against accident should be v ' adopted.
