INSPECTION OF MEAL
AMERICAN GOVERNMENT TO BEAR THE COST. [press association.] (Received June 15, 9.30 a.m.) LONDON. 14th June. Reuter's agent states that a committee of the United States House of Representatives lias agreed to an appropriation of two million dollars for reform of the meat-packing trade, the Government instead of packers bearing the cost of meat inspection. All meat products must bear Government labels as a guarantee that the contents ate wholesome. A label stating the date of manufacture is riot required, and the use of preservatives is left to the discretion of the Secretary of Agriculture.
